@mhoye very cool:

run into a random problem, join an irc channel, have the founders of the project express empathy for your situation, help you fix it, and the next release has improved documentation and/or code to handle that.

coolest: after a few years of doing this, you find yourself being on the fixing side of this involvement, and paying it forwards to the next generation of FLOSSers.

web3, wired, relentless negativity

i reflected for a little while on why i'm so reliably unkind about this sort of thing, and i think what it comes down to - apart from the considerable degree to which i am just a naysaying asshole by nature - is the way that i live inside an industry whose hype cycle has pretty well ensorcelled the whole species.

sure, there's bullshit everywhere. but not every class of bullshit constructs a world we wind up living inside of for decades.

Apropos nothing: The Finnish word "nato" means "husband's sister".

@liw Everything on the Model01 can be controlled from the PC with a bit of code! The Focus plugin makes that very simple: it lets you add custom commands to the Model01's serial protocol, and you can write whatever you wish to do in the custom handler. In this case, led.panic is pretty much this: (next toot)

Those of you who have come here from corporate social media (recently or in the past) and stayed, which of the following were behind your reasons to stay here?

Boosts OK!

Things I love about Finland 🇫🇮 - It took me 5 minutes to do my taxes online.

about to present my recent work on «Worldwide Gender Differences in Public Code Contributions (and How They Have Been Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic)» (co-authored with D. Rossi from UniBo) at (virtual) #ICSE:

I've not watched the video through myself: I don't like watching myself.

I'm #hiring - do me proud #fediverse and show you can find me a good candidate by boosting for visibility!

Are you a UK-based person with #infrastructure experience? I am hiring for 2 great #jobs. #hybrid working (remote with currently 1 day/week in London). #linux #foss
Great opportunity to work in the exciting area of High Performance Computing. Closing date 15th may so hurry!

serde_json has to be one of Rust's killer features. Strongly typed JSON without writing code? Yes, please.

(Currently debugging a regression in librsvg, for which I already have test fixtures in JSON, and this is all around wonderful.)

@liw @oblomov It's a macro (see here for its source)!

It produces a random lower-case letter. It's a very unique feature of the Model01, and I love it.
